The page was modified just recently on April 26th, 2009. The discussion page states "the article is within the scope of wikiproject disambiguation, an attempt to structure and organize all dissmbiguation pages on Wikipedia." With this said, everyone can edit this page. If you don't have an account then your IP address would be made public; however, if you have an account your identity could be concealed. This could cause vandalism and destroy structure within the article's editing process because it removes credibility. Also, you can just use a pyblic computer so tgers wont see your IP adress. You can't copy from other websites without a GFDL compatible license, which allows users to copy, redistribute and modify a work. It's copies are also available under the same license.
There are revision statistics which allows readers to see who edited the page at any point. It contains user names and their first and last edits. You can also search for revisions. Revisions also have categories; thereby adding to structure: minor edits, section edits, and automatic edit summary.
This is a good description of the editing system on Wikipedia, but I'm curious to know what exactly you saw on the recent changes page of Friday Night Lights? Of those 500 edits, how many were from the same person? Are there a lot or a few people working together on the article? Like you said, the article is part of the scope of wikiproject disambiguation, but has that affected how people have collaborated on it as compared to other parts of the site?
ReplyDeleteFor a series airing that long I would assume the wikipedia article probably changes with each season. Newer information concerning the show in every aspect gets add each session while other information is either deleted or condensed. Either way their must be alot of information that is lost when the show begins a new season. Is this true, did the history reflect such behavior among the edit history of the article or does the article just grow larger and larger with each year the show airs?
ReplyDeleteI agree with enduro, it was a good description of the editing system on Wikipedia and an interesting choice pages to view. I would have to think that the editing of this page would have a cyclical pattern with more edits being made during the season and not as many being made during the off season of the show.
